WELCOME TO STEP OUT YOUTH GROUP

Step Out Youth Group is based in South Wigston in the borough of Oadby and Wigson near Leicester. The group is operated by fully trained and DBS checked volunteers, where offer a wide range of activities in a safe environment.  The youth group is affiliated to Young Leicestershire, Putting Young People First in Leicestershire. Step Out Youth Group was opened in South Wigston in 2015 after finding there was a need for somewhere for young people to meet, have fun, learn and build new skills and friendships.

Step Out Youth Group was created by Aimee Hill & Carl Walter with a great bunch of loyal volunteers, with some of those volunteers still supporting the group today. The youth group has an active committee that meets regularly to discuss and plan activities. The group was kindly supported & funded by The Conservation Volunteers Projects (TCV) & The Health Lottery for the first six months. Since then we have grown in numbers, moved premises and been supported by a number of charities and organisations to be able to carry on supplying a service to the youth of South Wigston and further afield.  Step Out closed during the pandemic and have bounced back with over 35 children and fun new activities and games. We try and split the age group in two from time to time, 8-10 yrs, then 11yrs upwards, where the older one do different activities than the others.

ABOUT STEP OUT YOUTH GROUP

Step Out Youth Group is for young people. It’s based in South Wigston, which is an area of social deprivation, in the borough of Oadby & Wigston. South Wigston is among one of the most disadvantaged areas in Leicester. The area suffers from anti-social behavior and there is a lack of opportunities for young people to use their recreational time constructively.

Step Out Youth Club aims to offer opportunities to engage young people and encourage them to achieve their maximum potential in their personal and social development. The group was opened in 2015. Step Out welcomes anyone to their Elliott Hall Community and Youth premises from the ages of 8 to 16 years of age. The group is a voluntary sector, the youth group relies on grants and funding pots as well as donations from the trust to continue to run their sessions.

The group is made up of a management committee, part-time youth workers and volunteers. Step Out Youth Group moved in November 2017 to their new base at Elliott Hall, Albion Street, South Wigston, Leicester.

This gave them the chance to offer a larger range of activities for all ages. This includes different crafts, cooking, growing in our community garden, hands-on making, plus indoor and outdoor sports (mainly in the summer on the park for outdoors).

A large computer chill zone and laptops, there is also a fully-stocked tuck shop offer a wide range of snacks and drinks. Indoor activities range from snooker, air hockey, table football, table tennis, badminton, bowling, volleyball, darts, and lots more!!!!

Throughout the year different sports activities are available for periods of four to six weeks at no extra charge such as boxercise, gymnastics to name just a few. Step Out also endeavors to plan evenings/day trips for the group ranging from swimming and skating to a full fun day where the whole family can attend. Step Out works with other organisations to provide activities like Outspoken, Leicestershire Cares.
